BUILDING SAFETY, RESILIENCY, & STABILITY FOR OUR UNHOUSED COMMUNITY
The PEACE Project was launched in 2023 after Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center (SJMC), part of CommonSpirit Health, was awarded a United Against Violence Grant from CommonSpirit Health’s Mission & Ministry Fund.
With this support, a multisector collaborative planning group was formed—bringing together community stakeholders, service providers, and individuals with lived experience of homelessness. Together, they worked to better understand the unique challenges and types of violence experienced by unhoused people in Stockton and San Joaquin County.

OUR MISSION
Over the next three years, the PEACE Project—led by United Way of San Joaquin County as the backbone convener and SJMC as fiscal agent—will:
-
Center Community Voices: Ensure lived experience guides decision-making.
-
Identify Gaps: Improve violence reporting, service coordination, and data collection across systems.
-
Develop Interventions: Create safety-driven, trauma-informed solutions.
-
Promote Stability: Strengthen self-sufficiency and resiliency skills to improve well-being and support housing stability.
Our goal is clear: a community-led, solution-driven path to safety and stability for our unhoused neighbors.
GET INVOLVED: LEAD-SAFE AGENCY QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of the PEACE Project’s work to reduce violence and increase safety for the unhoused community, we are gathering information from agencies and partners interested in becoming Lead-Safe Storage Agencies.
